Born on October 2, 1960, in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, Nigeria, Dr. Orjiako is the Chairman and Co-Founder of SEPLAT, a leading independent oil and gas company listed on the London and Nigerian stock exchanges, with a strategic focus on the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Education and Early Career
Dr. Orjiako’s academic journey started with his primary and secondary education in Uli, Anambra State, Nigeria. He excelled as a brilliant student and was a class leader in secondary school. He gained admission to the prestigious University of Calabar, where he studied Medicine and graduated in 1985 as one of the top students. As a student, he held leadership positions, such as Director of the International Federation of Medical Students, African Region, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the African Medical Students Association.
After obtaining his M.B.B.Ch. degree in 1985 from the College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Nigeria, Dr. Orjiako trained as a General Surgeon at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos. He later specialized in Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery and became a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons in 1996. In 2006, he completed the OPM program at Harvard Business School, further enhancing his business acumen.

Dr. ABC Orjiako’s entrepreneurial journey in the oil and gas industry began in 1996 when he established and managed various companies in the upstream, downstream, and service sectors in Nigeria. In 2009, he co-founded SEPLAT with his company Shebah Exploration and Production Company and Platform Petroleum Limited. Since its inception, Dr. Orjiako has been the Chairman of SEPLAT, providing visionary leadership, spearheading new business development, and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.
Under Dr. Orjiako’s leadership, SEPLAT has achieved remarkable milestones, including pioneering the dual listing of its shares on the Nigerian and London stock exchanges in 2014. The company has been recognized with prestigious awards, such as the Best Africa Listing 2014 by Africa Investors (Ai), Mid-Cap Company of the Year 2014 by the Oil and Gas Council, and Global Growth Company 2014 by the World Economic Forum.
